Reasonable reliable power?

I have been considering a 1998 to 2002 Formula 382 with 500hp, 525hp, 500efi or 525efi - maybe 525sc. Lots of boats use these motors. They seem like a great balance between power, reliability and economy. Please share your experiences with these packages and the out drives that suit them best.

Thanks in advance, Mark

I think the words "reasonable" and "reliable" are contradictory terms when talking about marine engines. If a stock Merc 525is deemed "reasonable" for you, that's what I'd go with.
