Short shaft is 15".Narrows your choices somewhat to older engines,as 15" motors have kind of disappeared, but there are some out there. You need to be sure of the length before you buy.

Looking for a 15" mid - 20" at most. Weight is an issue so 2-3 or v4's max. 60-100hp.

Ya need something like the motor in this slide show http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slidesho...e&conn_speed=1

!5" mid, will make almost 140 hp on race fuel (108min)(not the motor in the pics) weighs 135lbs. 15 mids are tough to find, all the hydro racers are looking for them. Saw a merc 1500XS sell for $2900 on ebay last week. Also, if you want to run a jack plate getting a trim system to work in a 15 is nearly impossible, well it is possible but finding the right combination of parts to actually make it work is nearly impossible.
Good luck, tough market with the short shaft racers.

When you get done with all that good luck finding props. Picked up an sst-60 12x25 3 blade cleaver for the little cat, $1500

Thanks Mike,
Doing another this year, its a 1950 Anthony 3 pt hydro. Putting a 1968 Merc 1250SS on it since I would like to keep it somewhat "period correct". I'll probably just restore the 700 that is on it now and moth ball it. The boat needs a little work, not as much as the cat though. Here is a link to the previous owner's web site.

Yup, done deal, even got it registered already. Only one problem, it's still sitting in Idaho and I couldn't convince Jim to make the ride I'll make the trip in late April to pick it up, at least there she's sitting inside.
