SML in the news again!!
The 10:00 pm news said there was another boating accident on Smith Mountain Lake today. There wasn't much said, other than one person is still missing. The accident happened near the dam, according to Fox News.
This isn't the way to start a new season. Condolences to the Family.

I don't know any details, but I can tell you it was NOT Docmanrich37.
http://www.roanoke.com/ is reporting 4 people aboard; 2 survivors, 1 dead, 1 missing. They are also reporting the accident was in the "S-turns" which is NOT close to the dam. Its several miles away.

As first reported...
"The watercraft, a 33-foot-long high-performance speedboat, was submerged in the water before sinking about 7 p.m."
The latest update...Condolences to the families involved.
Rescue crews are attempting to raise a boat that sank at Smith Mountain Lake Wednesday afternoon, killing at least one man.
The 2007 33-foot HackerCraft wooden boat is about 30 feet below the surface of the water, bow up, in the S-curve area of the lake, said Sgt. Bryan Young of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Richard W. Smith, 64, of Moneta died in the accident. David Reynolds, 44, of Grottoes is still missing. Dennis Zimmerman and Walter Curt, both of the Harrisonburg area, survived the accident.
The four men were taking the boat from one of Curt's lakeside properties to another, Young said. It's still not clear what happened to cause the accident.
Edit.. forgot the link.

Here is a link to the type of boat, "Yea SPEED BOAT" your grand fathers speed boat. I swear, I am sure speed will be blamed for this also. I think I would call it a wooden bucket, but that wouldn't make and new laws.

The MFG of the boat stepped in and stated its a "Sport boat" not a "Speed Boat". HUMM as usual I smell lawsuit, I have been on SML for 30 Years never seen it too rough for a 33' boat, biggest I have ever seen it was 3-4' MAX

Thanks for the information. The original broadcast was the only time I saw anything about the accident. Has the missing person been found?
