Steering Question. Help Neede

This a 2 part question, if anyone has exsperienced this befre.
1. If i shake the steering wheel side to side there is a lot of slop or play between the movements. Its a cable over hydrolic i believe. Is there any adjustmesnt or end play adjuster i may use to take some of this stack up?

2. Another problem i have is its hard as hell to turn the wheel its self. I had the boat in the water this past weekedn and i couldnt turn it wth out feeling like i was at the gym all over again. Does it sounds like the pum is just dead? of is there another problem i should be looking for/at?
Thanks
Mike

if your helm is a push pull type cable ( probably old merc type cable runs back to a log type hydraulic ram on inside of transom used to conect to a tiller arm) , there is a shuttle valve that can stick usually seems to happen in spring after boat sits moisture in valve causes corrosion if you really have a 650 horse velocity do you self a favor and put in a full hydraulic helm it will take out the slop .its what everyone should have after 70 or so , at speed the cable system is moving side to side costing speed and stability and could set up a bad situation

I take it to mean it is a add-on system?

They are harder to turn at idle speeds, but are easy once you get the rpms up. Nature of the beast.

Yep, thats the way mine is also.

Not real hard to turn at idle, but the faster you try to turn it, the harder it gets. Also has the slight slop turning from one way to the other. That is inherent to to the cable part of the system.

Oh ok thanks guys, Where can i get the rest of the hydrolic steering. I assume i need from wheel to drive since i have the drive to transom setup
