Best Place to save $$$ on a Sony stereo system?

Just browsing the web I found this just as an example. Never heard of the place, but West Marine wants $199

This includes shipping. Anyone have a place to save $$

I'm going to be getting amps, speakers, subs etc...

I just got some speakers off of Ebay, and I'm pretty happy. The stuff was brand new, not refurbished, and the prices seemed really fair. I got my stuff from "The12VKings" Don't know if they carry Sony, but they did have a lot of brand name stuff.

Read the reviews and do a search on them on the net. Alot of headaches can be avoided by not always going with the cheapest price.

I just bought the same head unit. It was a package deal. Came with speakers and a cover assy. 219.95.

I save $$ by using an automotive head unit. I've never had any issues with them. I do use marine speakers though.

How do you know if it was not refurbished.
Broken stuff goes back to MFG, gets fixed (hopefully) gets new cosmetics, new packaging, and gets repacked like new, and MFG sells it to . . .whoever and they sell it usually on-line.

BTW: LOTS of plasma TV's on the internet are re-furbs or "B" goods that MFG's won't sell to dealers. Plasma panels have a 20 - 40% defect rate in manufacturing. It has been getting better, thats why prices keep coming down. But they just don't throw the panel away. They get "something" for it through non-dealers via the internet.

I have been in the electronics business for over 30 years, LOTS of internet stuff is clever re-furbs. I sincerely hope yours is not. . . . But if the price is real cheap - it probably is a refurb.

Just my $.03 worth.
