Insurance will be a small issue with a late 80's boat no matter what.

The 525 EFI runs best on 87 octane.

Run the boat at 3500 rpms, it will live forever and cruise at the speed you are comfortable at without working the engine.

It sounds like you have exactly what we all want!

525 requires 87 octane.
You can get insurance... it may be a bit more than a 496.
Get a rev limiter.
Also resale will be better w/ a 525efi than a 496.

But if your heart is dead set on ridding yourself of the 525, do a new post w/ a title stating that you want to swap out... you'll find guys.

425hp/496 with low hours run 10-12k from what I have seen for sale.

figure paying $1-2k labor for the swap if you dont do it yourself.
Basically youll end up with an extra $10k and probably still run in the very high 70s.
To some $10k is play money,,to others its gas/insurance money for a couple long summers of boating,only you can decide..

i have a 496 ho i would trade you in a heartbeat. but if i were you i would keep the 525 but if you really want to swap i guess i could help you out...

Doesnt that 496HO require 93 octane?

For all the above reasons, the swap is a bad idea. You realize that you have a lever on the boat that can be used to control your comfort or discomfort :)
