credit card question

If you take credit card info over the phone. What is the purpose of getting the name on the card? Is that suppose to be entered somewhere and matched up or is that for refrence if something goes wrong later.

somebody has to know. When they ceck the billing address do they match up the name on the credit card or just the address?

Simply for records not for authorization.

We ask for name on card, billing address, CCV #, and of course card# & exp. And now for unknown new accounts, copy of drivers license to be faxed.
But to answer your question, our machine does not take the name. It's for future security reasons. Or we can call the bank to double check.

Many times, the rate that your CC provider charges you changes depending upon the amount of information you get/submit for the transacdtion. The less info, the more risk for them. When we run cards, we don't have the physical card, so we only enter the information to enter into the CC machine.

Also, many times rates differ depending upon the bank/company issuing the card.

Your machine should be set up for address verification(AVS),the name is only for your reference.By processing the address verification on the machine its less of a risk for the credit card processor therefore you pay a lower rate on the transaction. If you bypass AVS you pay a hire rate.

So they can use what ever name they want as long as the address is correct on the billing address?

Stormrider 05-08-2007 02:38 PM

Well, if you have the card infront of you... the name is easy to give, the address... not so much.

on the address stuff they just want the address # and zip.

I know a buddy that ordered some lab props from teague and they would not ship to his rual route address. they ended up shipping it to a ups store, had to show a DL to pick it up

We take cards all day everyday.

For authorization, all we need is the credit card number and the correct expiration date.

We do ask for :
Name
Address
Phone number

But the above information is for shipping purposes only.

On internet orders, we don't even see the entire credit card number. Just the last four digits are sent to us with the approval.
