I had same boat w/ 454 mag and I thought they'd knock right on the door of 70 mph, where I thought the Scarab SCS was pretty much a 75-76MPH boat. Maybe he's something he's not telling you about
Seriously though I even thought the Hammer would get spanked by the 22 Scarab w/ the 454.

Buy him a GPS. It slows every boat down by about 5-10mph.
Or encourage him to the best 3 out of 5 holeshot races. Each time you start; just let him hammer it, and you wait. After a couple of these he will have blown his drive, and you can idle past him for the win. (Seriously, you don't want to do any type of 'holeshot' racing. The slower and easier you can get your boat on plane, the better for the drive.)
