Default Merc 850sci reliability

What can people say about these engines out there? everyone had good experience? too much expensive maintenance? how many hours over the life of the engine should you expect on these motors? i know they get refreshed every 100-125 hours for 25k a pop but how many total hours should they expect to last?

Well, I think if you can afford the motors the maintenance isnt going to phase you. I do, however, dislike the idea of having any downtime for motor refreshing....especailly every 50hrs or so. The more I think about big cube N/A motors, the more I like them. Cobra or Zul 750 N/A's seem like a great compromise in a 38' ish boat. I dont know the maintenance schedule on them so I might be talking from my azz.

come on, no one out there own's a pair of 850's and can talk about their experience??? i hear this yr merc is guaranteeing racers who bought a new set to start the 07 season will make it through the whole season with no additional costs to the racers. Merc picks up any repairs for no charge. Thats saying something i would think

Being the first year for the Supercat "850", there have not been any issues with reliability! the Mercury truck racing staff are at all OSS races! In the first 3 races there has not been one engine or drive failure. in Biloxi, WHM lost a prop blade and DNF. Mercury is standing behind their product. Besides all OSS races, there is also Poker runs that they are attending.
