I've never done Lake Michigan, but I'm going to have to vote for Lake Erie.

I plan to be at Put-in-Bay at the end of July.

northern michigan where the water is clear and the air is clean. grand traverse and little traverse bay, mackinaw island, petoskey, bay harbor, charlevoix, leeland, northport, suttens bay, elk rapids, boyne city, harbor springs. erie is a blast but there is no place like home.

make sure ya get a chart. theres some shallow places. easy to get into trouble around the islands if your not careful..

Jay, if you hit Lake Michigan, be aware that the lake changes conditions rather quickly. Lake Michigan and Erie can become very rough.

Lake Michigan, you could hit Racine, boat up to Milwaukee, cruise up the Milwaukee River to view the city, and also boat North on the lake to Port Washington. All have very good marinas.

Both lakes are great. Do you homework and most importantly watch the weather. The lakes can change very quickly. My vote is for Northern Lake Michigan, aka Gods country.

Sounds like you need to plane 3-4, 3-4 day trips.:drink:
depends on how far you want to drive/tow. And, what you are looking for on the water.

From the Southern end of Lake Michigan we have casinos, Chicago, Racine and Millwaukee heading West.Head East and you have more Casinos remote beaches Quiet towns like New Buffalo and South Haven. Great Marinas both directions.A 75 mile cruise either direction will give you a ton of choices.

Good info ! Keep em coming. I'm doing Loto Shootout this year so the lakes may have to wait till next year but I ALWAYS wanted to run em once thus it's planning time now to get it done.
Not into the bar scene unless it's a sandbar! :D So we'd be looking for some hangouts on the water and good Marinas to overnight at on our boat with some attractions on or close to the water. Isn't Erie the calmer and shallower of the lakes in mid summer? What's water temp like in mid summer?

You want a sandbar/tie-up party in this area you can NOT beat the moot on Lake St. Clair. Great turn-out every weekend, plus some special events that really bring the boats out. One such event is the Raft Off. Probably 3000+ boats if the weather's nice...

Water temp, with a hot summer, will get between 75 to 78 degrees. Right now it depends where you go. Toledo water is 72. Water at Cleveland is 68.
