Yes, you need a passport to enter the Bahamas.

You must have a pasport to go by air. A birth certificate will work for arrival by boat. This will change later this year, but for now these are the rules

Went on Cruise there earlier this year. Birth Cert. (my passport expired) worked. You are supposed to have a passport to fly (and maybe by boat now too). I did see on the news last week that they are giving leniency on passports as the government is overwhelmed for passport demand. Better make a few calls to make sure!

Do some checking because I believe they just put out a notice stating that due to the amount of applications they have received because of the changes as of 1/07, they are going to permit travel to Mexico and the Bahamas without a passport. This was on my local news about a week ago...
Regards

If you do not have a valid current passport, you need birth certif. and proof that your application for a new passport was received.

Or you could just swim back as that seems to work as well.
