Default My first cat ride

I am currently on vacation in Perdido Beach Fla. I called a parasail company, and they offered a ride in a boat called the sea rocket. I paid for a ride for myself and my family of 4. We arrived this morning at the dock, and I saw that the sea rocket was a 34' cat with twin yannmar diesels.

The boat had no cabin, and seated approx 12. It is a tourist attraction/converted go fast boat. The captain took us out of old river into the gulf, but my wife could not take the WOT sharp turns in the gulf. I was loving it, but for her and the kids, it was a little rough.

Man, a cat turns on a dime. A totally different boating experience from a deep v. The captain said the boat went approx 50-55 on flat water, and up to 65 on a 2' chop.

What a fun ride! He couldn't stop talking about the fuel economy of the diesels. He said that he is currently swapping out all of his 496's for diesels in the parasail boats for the fuel economy.

Makes me want a cat instead of a fountain.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default first gofast/cat ride

we were on vacation in Clearwater.

a 55' Cat w/ BIG diesels and Arnesons, a converted tourist boat w/ alot of seats. it was a windy and cool day. the sea was nasty. big 6 to 8's. the boat was crusin with the wind about 70-75 and we were on our way to the inlet to the Gulf. it was about a 2 foot chop. then suddenly the water turned to snarly 8 footers.

the captain kept on the power, i was lucky enough to be driving, and the boat launched and flew.
from then on, i was hooked-er than i was before.
then captain took throttles and driving duties, and off we went into the edge of the gulf. honest 6-7 footers with an occasional 8. in a 55 it was fun. not sure how fast we were moving, because there wasnt a speedo, but i didnt care. it was a huge adrenaline rush. in water like that it felt way faster than whatever it was we were doing.

he turned it around, and headed back to smooth water inside.
crusin at around 55 or 60, he decides to swing it around 180.
i was very impressed with the way it carved. it felt very solid and very flat.

it was a great first time gofast/cat experience.

You can buy a Fountain with Yanmar's and it will run in the mid to high 70's with a least 3 miles per gal. It will only come in a 42' lighting. Again not the fastest but from 10 to 75 it will be one of the fastest.
