With the current prop and gear combo, at 5500 rpm, theoretical speed is 132 mph. With 20% slip, the actual speed is 106 mph. If the slip is less than 20%, it will go faster. I don't think it will have a problem spinning the prop to 5500, although we haven't turned it no where near that hard yet. The boat turned 3800 rpm running 72 mph at only 28% throttle this past wekend. It will all depend on how effecient the boat is at that speed. We didn't want to stand on it this past weekend for fear of breaking the drive just before they were to leave for Destin. When the boat comes back, we're going to find out what it can do. Eddie.

How is that bad boy going to handle at that speed? I had a 28 Heat previosuly and it was a very stable boat that handled well. However, that was at 70....not sure what 110 will look like

I was running the boat at about 90 when the drive cut loose on its first run. I was really impressed with the way the boat handled at that speed. I have talked to a few guys who have been faster than that and all have said the boat handled great. There's only one way to find out

Maybe you can build an over-sized (ie. 2-gallon should do it) drive oil reservoir and run it through an oil cooler to try and keep the gears cool!! I know where there is an old oil cooler for sale cheap!!

Do you have your checkbook with you? If you need me to send a wire to Destin to bring the 386 back, just let me know.

Most importantly.....remember......WWBD?

Thanks Magic, hopefully it will past a buck with no problem.

Len,
That oil cooler better be VERY cheap. I still don't think the fittings will be big enough
I have never seen drive oil grow that fast. 30 seconds after we broke 3000 rpm's, it grew well over an inch and would have come out had we not backed down. I would like to put a temp gauge in it to see just how much heat that drive is making. I really wish there was a way to put a pump in the drive and send the oil through a cooler. I have been thinking about it for a while and can't come up with anything. The heat is going to continue to be the death of that drive.
Give me a call after you write the check

Eddie
