tabs,,,, k planes..??

Im buying a 232 islander and will installing my 550 hp 502 , it might be a 540 if the budget allows. It has no tabs at all and we do a fair bit of low speed stuff , boarding , tubing etc. Will the dual ram bennetts stand up to 75-80 mph. A buddy blew his right off , but im wondering if he had them down at 60+. thnx sj

You may blow them off too. Why have them if you can't use them at speed? Many hi powered boats like a little tab at speed.

get kplanes or some tabs from trick marine.
I dont see bennets on any new nice HP stuff recently.

My 24 python with a 502- 390hp had the dual ram bennett tabs. It did 72mph. IMO that 232 islander probobly wasn't designed to go much over 70. If you've already got the bennett tabs - use them.

My 260 Scarab has the dual ram Bennetts but only runs about 64. They work good but if I had the dinero I would get some K-planes. Like someone else said Bennetts are not used much on the hi-performance boats.

Thanx guys... Thge boat doesnt have any tabs and i wanted to get some on mainly for low speed sports and somewhat for hi speed runs. I was going to order the bennetts till a buddy told me about ripping his off. I have seen the ones from trick marine , they are about 2.5 times the cost of the bennetts. sj

Had a 5500 lb. 26' Sonic with dual ram Bennett ST-12s. I swapped the plates to ST-16s, and had no issues with the boat at 70+ at times, and in 4-7 footers at other times.

Once, with the ST-12 plates, I had a ferrell come loose from the front of the pump unit, and sprayed a bunch of fluid in the bilge.
Bennett had a handful of new ferrells to me in a couple days. They are exemplary examples of customer service in the Marine Industry. MJ Thomas in charge of customer service, and posts here on OSO occasionally. Give them a call.

I'll speak well of Bennett as well. I had a tab that would not layout and thought the pump or solinoid was an issue. I contacted their customer service via e-mail and was sent instructions on how to trouble shoot the HPA. Went thru the procedure and reported back to Bennett, their diagnosis was the rocker switch. Changed that out and the tab went back to working. Good company to deal with on any issues.

I have 280 K-planes on my 24 Superboat. I use them in rough water. Don't really need them in flat water or when doing high speed runs.

If you are spending the coin on a motor, and running fast, it makes sense to set your boat up RIGHT. GOOD tabs and steering make a HUGE diff. with a small fast boat.

And don't forget the full hyraulic steering!!!
Going fast safely isn't cheap.
