Filling Up Fuel Tank Before Winter Storage

Who does it?

JoeD 09-26-2007 06:08 AM

They say with the new fuels its best to get as much fuel out of the tank as possible------this is the new thinking as this fuel breaks down in 30-60 days

Thats correct! With the new E-10 fuels you want to get as much fuel out of the boat as possible.

if the boat is stored outside and covered, (engines winterized) wouldnt the tank build up condensation if empty?

Just dump in some stabil and let it ride, use the correct ratio on mixing it and you should not have any problem. I have a car here that I haven't put any fuel in for almost two years now, I can go out right now and it starts like a new one...........one day its gonna backfire on me though, I have got to burn that gas out and add some new. Stabil works really well. It made a believer out of me.

I was told marina gas does not contain ethanol. So if anything, put the good stuff in over winter.

In the past I've wintered at 1/4 - 1/2 tank, (against advice on condensation) then put fresh gas in spring, thinking it would blend & dilute bad. Have not decided if I should fill up at marina, or try & empty this yr.
