yes they do have guards on them other wise there would be alot of boats with rips and broken props.

I know a guy here in Jupiter that races those in the SE USA. He said he has hit 77 in one of those on flat water. It is kinda a poor man's racing. He likes it because it is less than 10K to get into and it is really competitive/ fun.
