I' m guessing that your Scarab is a single-engine SBC. I would think you would WAY ahead repowering at this time with BBC. Even with a stroker reman, you're not going to be able to make as much torque as the big block.
Spend a little extra time and money in your search to ensure you get a BBC with the right forged internals and rectangular-port heads. You will find it a little more pleasing than the straight 7.4 litre 330/300 horse round-ports that are out there. You're really going to wake up that boat, and since you already have the Bravo, you aren't going to need to go through a drive change like so many that want to go from SBC to BBC that are stuck with Alphas that can't take the torque. :ernaehrung004:What is a bravo ss I know they made a Alpha ss with gas prices a big inch small block is a good choice. If you can find one a 525 is sweet or a 500 hp fi is a good choice if you can find a nice fresh water one with low hours. Dont put so much money in the boat that you are stuck with it forever.

Was the boat offered with a BBC?
If the boat was never offered with a big block, why would you want to use one without knowing how it was going to effect the handling. A well built 383 stroker will give you lots of torque and power, and keep all of the benefits of the lighter motor..... |

a decent engine's gonna cost you &-10k.
the reman 383 will give you enough power, and a 2yr warr. avail. and you wont spend $15-20k on a 525... you'll never see it. You will be lucky w/ a running engine to get $10 for the boat... not the smartest to pour $ into it, unless you plan on KEEPING IT! And where he is located is very relavant if you are looking to rebuild that engine. oh yea, and w/ an alpha, you probably dont want to be throwing 450-500ft/lb of torque at it. |
