sounds like a smart purchase to me

I would not hesitate for a second to buy a VP boat. personally i would prefer it and would dump the black stuf off the back of my Scarab in a heartbeat if i could.

got a old volvo outdrive on my donzi, beat the ever leaving snot out of that outdrive and the only thing ive ever done to it is change the fluid, it is one tough drive! far more durable than any alpha, and i think i would even out it up against a stock bravo in durabilty, i slam the throttle down in that boat and dont think twice about it

interesting link C spray. read through the whole thing i i dont think i saw anyone prefer Merc, maybe one or two guys that have never had a VP.

I have a little 24' Bowrider with the 7.4GSI and the DPS drive. I wish I didn't because nobody makes upgrade parts for it. All the exhaust and what not won't fit on my boat. The reason I don't like the VP products is in the performance applications like many people before me have been saying. In a cruiser the motor package would be killer. They are very reliable motors and drives (with proper maintenance) they will last for ever. So for performance stuff....eh! For a cruiser and somebody who isn't a speed whore like most people on the boards....perfect.

Well, I think my brother is going to pull the trigger on the 270 with the VP setup. Thanks a million for the replies!!

Most people want VP and not Merc in cruisers. My VP's GXI's ran awesome

buy to volvo
the volvo is a great drive for this style of boat. i have never had trouble. i also have the volvo DPX drive in my larry smith scarab with 600hp in front of it and the DPX is a dream.
put her on a slick spot! |
Yep, the VP's are really good drives. We sell Regal's where I work and the buyer can order a boat with either the VP or the Merc and 98 out of 100 boats we sell have VP's. This is from open bows to cruisers with I/O's. Volvo also just came out with a new drive last year for the cruisers but can't think of what it is called. I'll try and look it up. This one is set up for inboards but has a drive coming out of the bottom of the boat which swivels and can be ran off a joystick. Let me look for it.
