I'll agree that some of the paint/graphics work has come a long way, but I think in a few short years your going to see it become a little more subtle - it's already going that direction, look at Gino's boat - incredible detail, but it's a whisper, not a scream.
In a few years, the loud paint will look the same as the Teal/Pink combos from the '80's does today.

I have more...
As far back as 1987 Pepe Nunez of Pantera and Jim Muir of Dimension 5 Design came up with the closed canopy design race boat with the Recaro seats and 5 point harnesses. APBA was not sold on the idea of this because of safety concerns. It was a tough sell back then when most guys were standing up in V-bottoms.
