The answer to the question is: Not if he's in his right mind.
Reggie does what he does, stepped V-bottoms, very well. Love him or hate him, like his shareholder statements or not. Why would he introduce a cat at a time when performance-boat sales, across the board, are in the proverbial crapper? For the record: Fountain did build some MTI cats. I don't know how many, but I'm sure someone on this board does. And, yes, they were pleasure cats. As for an MTI being a "glorified Skater," tell it to Randy Scism. I don't know if an MTI is a Skater rip-off, as has been claimed by some, or if Randy Scism came up with it all on his own. No doubt, he learned a lot from Peter Hledin when Skater supplied boats to the Dubai Victory team that raced for and eventually managed. Regardless of where it came from, an MTI isn't a "glorified" anything. It's a very fine catamaran in its own right. |
I remember hearing the story of when Reggie bought the Fabio Buzzi cat and named it "Fountain'... I heard that Reg took the boat and made his own modifications to it and it emerged 15 mph slower.
