If it's your first time there, you're obligated to do the tourist things:
Southernmost Point,
0 Mile Marker,
Take a picture of the wild chickens running the streets.
Spend some time in Mallory, and listen to the street vendors rap and hand them a couple bucks. We met the "22 guy" when we were there, and he was actually pretty entertaining.
Buy something from one of the street vendors on Duval (just not the 800 block). The wife bought some baskets woven from the fallen palm leaves from the previous nights wind that some guy collected and made. It was pretty cool, I was BS'ing with him while he's making them, and he told me he was making well over 6 figure's just by weaving baskets and hats and crap out of fallen palm leaves.
Don't bother renting a car - scooter or walk it all depending on where you're staying.
It's a cool place - you'll have a blast!
