Mercury ID Tag on Motor

Where do I look for the Mercury ID tag on my motor? I am trying to find the exact year it was built. I found the block number on the back, but I do not see the silver tag. Would it be hid by the coupler?

not there, I found 14096859 on the rear of the block and behind the cupler housing was M111 can this tell me anything.

It's on the side of the block above the starter on Sterndrive & inboard (block mounted starter), can be a real pita to see depending on the boat.

if it was registered properly even the drive or gimbal serial # will work as long as its the original pieces

Thanks I will check that when I get home.

The engine and drive did not come together. The boat came originally with a 350 mag and I upgraded to a 502 Mag.
