Joking aside, I have a hard time get worked up about any advertising content. I am as mystified at the strong reaction to the unchecked boasting in Fountain ads as I am to the strong reactions on the implied sexuality of Cigarette ads. To me, they're just ads, designed to sell a product. I can't recall ever being offended by one.
Hey, I know some people feel differently and have strong reactions. Makes for good message board fodder. But at the end of the day, you can always turn the page or change the channel or, better still, not buy the product being advertised to you in an offensive manner.
Worrying about how "boaters are presented" falls under the category we all love to hate: political correctness.
And Chris Sunkin makes an excellent point: The majority of us do a good job when it comes to safety. If the majority of us didn't, trust me, we'd be making headlines every day. We'd also be an endangered species.
