I have used them in customers boats and haven't seen any temp or water pressure difference big enough to worry about. As for the run dry part I haven't tryed to fry one on purpose yet but I will say they are much better than the stock merc ones if you happen to pick up a bunch of sand.

Can you run the Globes in a Jabsco pump?
|
I smoked a stock one a few years ago winterizing. I started the engine and began dumping antifreeze into the sea strainer. It took a minute to realize the pickup valve was still open and the juice was spilling out onto the ground. By the time I shut it down, the impeller was toast.

The boy's got game.

I forget that some boats still run without sea strainers. They make a huge difference to impeller life if you spend any time in rough water and run hard. A decent sized sea strainer should provide some reservoir for limited hang time.

Here is a really good thread with some useful information:

I bought my blue impellers from Michael and have them in my 625 Ilmors and was use to losing about 4 or 5 impellers per year usually from shallow water problems. I have not lost one since changing over to the blue impellers. I am a believer in them. No loss of water pressure in mine either. If memory serves me correctly, the mercury water pump can supply enough water for 3 engines, so I doubt the sealing differences would be noticeable. I do know for a fact that I have seen a boat with the hoses with a shutoff valve to move water to the engine whose pump failed which I thought was a good idea. If a pump fails, just open the valve and the pump would supply water to the other engine until the repair could be made to the other pump. This was on a fountain on Lake Norman a couple of years ago.
