Ive heard that the mirage props are not trued from the factory (local prop guy) I wounder if you got one that was out of wack if that would cause the problems your talking about

He said that one blade on a 23" mirage may be 22, one 23 and one 24 making it seem like a crap prop.

He did a friend of mines mirage and claimed it was that way. After labbing and trueing, he gained 300rpms and better handling. He tends to add a little **** to what he says, so i dont know if its true or not, but I know Im going to give it a try on mine.

Alot of props only come in 2 inch pitch incriments 23, 25, 27 etc. ao thay can vary plus or minis a 25 could be 23 or 27. Thats why I stick with Hydromotive most of the time. There props are produced in 1 inch incriments.

Liquid, I'm about 420hp +/- with mildly modified 454mag. I see about 63-64 at 5200 rpms. The amount of load makes little difference and I could probably run a labbed 25 Mirage+ and pick up a couple mph. Just got it completely dialed in at the end of last season and now it's for sale.

Liquid-have you tried to calculate the prop slippage? Unless I'm mistaken, that prop is hooking up pretty well. Any of the good prop sites will have a calculator that you can use.

The only thing that bothers me is that you are running high 60's with 415hp. Now, I don't know the boat, but I'd expect you to be in the low 70's with that power.

How much trim are you feeding the boat? My old boat thrived on trim. The more I gave it, the faster it would run. People can talk all they want about the optimum drive angles and heights, but honestly, what does the hull want?

cord- prop slip is about .10, what does this mean? It dosent seem to trim much, and I have freinds with the same boats ''stock'' are they lying or do you really think they run 72-73 on gaffrig speedo?

Griff 01-15-2002 07:59 PM

Liquid, your friends are probably telling the truth about what there speedo's say, but they aren't going that fast. Actual speed with that hp in a 24 Outlaw will be around 65mph. It will take 500hp to break the 70mph mark. Also, my prop slip is about 13%. What that means is that a 23" prop will move 23 inches forward with one rotation and pushing nothing. If its slipping 13% then you are losing 13% of that 23 inches.

Griff , I borrowed a 25'' mirage non plus picked up 1-2 mph at 4700rpm do you think having that prop ''labbed'' would do the trick
