I didn't reach the right person at AYCO but am planning on trying shortly today. As for the care package, no need to send me cash or anything like that. It's just that I know some friends and family members of mine wanted to send things to the guys personally to show that we, back home, appreciate their commitment and sacrifice. So, I thought I'd let everyone here know that I'm sending some stuff and will be about every other week until he comes back in the late Spring. So, if you want to send something, like a hat or shirt from your local fire department, that would be awesome.
Generally, the guys like to get junk food. I got an email from him last night and he said that one guy had the portable DVD player with a tv screen that they all shared and they had only 2 DVDs the 1st and 2nd seasons of the Sopranos. So, I sent them the newly restored version of Apocalypse now that has the additional 49 minutes of footage. I may send something else later like Braveheart or the Patriot.
He said the food was okay, even the MREs (meals ready to eat) and that they occassionally have had hot water. He mentioned the light and other than that said they like getting newspapers and magazines from home and have, between them, enough paperback books to last the deployment. What he didn't have was the light to read with. Though, his wife sent me an email a little while ago saying she might have found a good one to send him today. So, I'm going to send some magazines, newspapers, candy bars, cookies, Coca Cola (it's expensive to ship a case of soda, but they seem to like that little surprise). But, I'm open to suggetion. I can't send porn or booze. Everything else seems to be good to go.
