Haimes returns to Super Cat Fight in pursuit of 6th World Title
Throttleman teams up with Competitive EDGE Marine
Fort Lauderdale, FL - - Super Cats beware. After taking a year off to focus on business, 5 time World Champion Throttleman, Charlie Haimes returns to the 2002 APBA Offshore forum in hopes of picking up his 6th World Championship, this time, with veteran racer Dan DeSantis of Brockton, Massachusetts.
“Dan has a lot of experience in racing and will be going for his 2nd World Title, as well” said Haimes. DeSantis has competed in Stock Class, Pro Stock and Modified from 1993 to 1996 and is excited about returning to the racing forum with Haimes.
“Charlie and I have raced against each in the past, so we are very familiar with how each other operates. I believe we will make a great team and am looking forward to getting in the boat with him,” said DeSantis.
The team has selected Competitive EDGE Marine of Fort Lauderdale, to head up their 2002 drive to victory. Steve Schmidt, who brought Haimes his first Super Cat World Title in Reliefband, will take the lead in the position of Crew Chief.
Schmidt, most known for his victories with Alcone Motorsports and Spirit of Puerto Rico, was also named the 1998 APBA Crew Chief of the Year. “Competition will be tough, but we expect to be very competitive,” said Schmidt, who adds that Haimes and DeSantis will be heading to battle in a brand new 40’ Douglas Marine Skater.
