I found this press release doing a Google news search. It's dated Sept. 15 from Yahoo News. Anyone else heard anything?

Offshore Racing Organisation Announces 'Miami - New York 2004,' The Ultimate Powerboat Adventure Of The 21st Century

Monday September 15, 10:01 am ET

One Of The World's Largest Nautical Events Positions Itself As A 'Classic' In Powerboat Racing: 1200 Miles, 300 International Boating Teams, 6 Days, 5 Ports, And A $10 Million Grand Prize

MIAMI, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Offshore Racing Organisation is pleased to announce "Miami-New York 2004." This fantastic 6-day race will take place just off the eastern U.S. coast, covering 1200 nautical miles from Miami to New York. Three hundred international powerboat teams will compete for an estimated grand prize of $10 million. The event will be held in May 2004 and is currently seeking teams willing to face this remarkable journey. The event is open to anyone looking to be challenged -- amateurs and professionals alike -- but only the strong-willed need apply.

"Miami - New York 2004" requires 25- to 50-foot maximum factory and offshore powerboats equipped with inboard/outboard engines having a minimum horsepower of 400. All boats must have Coast Guard or A.P.B.A approval.

"Miami - New York 2004" will be a challenge for anyone willing to push themselves to their physical and mental limits and confront the most unpredictable element of nature -- the sea! Human resilience, modern technology and Mother Nature are just three of the key elements these teams will face on a daily basis. Only the strong will prevail.

A RACE ... A CHALLENGE ... AN ADVENTURE -- REALITY -- NOT JUST A REALITY SHOW

Negotiations are underway to broadcast the event internationally.

A REWARD

An anticipated grand prize of $10 million plus the coveted Golden Propeller Trophy will be awarded to the first team that crosses the finish line in New York City on the final day of the race.

A special and anticipated $1 million prize will be awarded for the first all-women team in New York.

As well as the Grand Prize awards, as the teams port nightly, benchmark awards will be presented, recognizing the strength and determination shown at every leg of this grueling race by these talented and determined crews.

A CELEBRATION

Thousands of spectators, both on- and off-shore, are expected to enjoy the race as it makes its way up the coast to share the passion and adventure of all participating teams and to cheer them on to the finish line.

Interesting????? This post/website sure raises ALOT of questions. I hope it's legitimate! I wonder who/what company is putting up 10 Million??? Apparently we have to wait for the web site to be updated on Sept 29.
Looking forward to the details!

This is very interesting. I wonder why this took this long to surface here. This would be an incredible oppourtunity at marketing Offshore racing to the international community with high visibility.

Only unknown is, who or what is the "Offshore Racing Organis[z]ation?"

Sounds like a reality TV show to me. The site is new as of 9/11 of 2003.

"Show me the Money"

Or at least a recognizable entity that has the financial fortitude of such a Bull-horned statement.

Hmmm.........shouldn't APBA know about this, since it mentions APBA in the promo? The administrative contact is using an AOL email address??

Recently, I heard about a reality show that was being done, which revolved around NASCAR, and the "contestants" had to pay a fee to even apply, and then, as they were "advanced" to further rounds, they had to pay more fees. Of course, the show has never surfaced, and repeated calls to the company "sponsoring" the show continues to tell contestants that it is just currently on hold.

I emailed snopes to see if they could dig up any validity on this great race thing........
