I thought about this before but was worried about scuff marks from the strap. You haven't had a problem with that?

I have not had a problem so far. Longest I tow is about 65 miles, usually much shorter. You could probably use rubber/foam pads under points of contact. I do snug it down pretty tight.

try lowering the tabs so that they are not in the way....just remember to raise the tabs before you launch the boat......works for me.

Believe it or not, it was a Chevy Cavalier at 50mph. The 82 year old woman told the police that she never saw us and the guy following her said she never hit the brakes. That's scary!

Anyhow the drive had a broken gimbal ring, a broken helmet (helmut? I have seen it spelled both ways) and a broken skeg. Other than that and the trailer, we had no other damage. With the force of the impact, I just knew that whoever hit us was dead, but she had no injuries. The bad part of the whole thing is that the boat and trailer were only 2 months old. All I can say is thank goodness for the drive guard and that I will have one on every trailer from here on out. It probably saved her life and it certainly saved us a lot of damage.

I have a similar situation tying down my boat
with the K-tabs in the way , sort of. I just let the strap going on the side of the tab .
Never had a problem with it .The strap could also be put in the gap between the transom plate and tab .
