Default Boating in the Keys

A little saying we have down here;

Blue, blue go on thru,
Green, green be real keen,
Brown, brown run a ground.

What color is the water by this boat?

My dad who has never been much of a boater, bought his first real fishing boat a few years ago down there so I bought him blue charts for X-mas. Very next F'ing day he comes in from fishing saying he ran across a sandbar and now his motor is plugged with sand.

Dad, did you have your plotter turned on?...........no, but I followed a lobster boat that made it across ok. Soooo, I spent the next day replacing impellers, thermostats and all that good chit. If he wasnt my father I would have smacked him like a red headed step child.

all you have to do is slow down ,even when the water is green it can be 2 inches deep,brown can be ten feet, that is an old saying regarding "sailboats", just follow the bubba stakes and you will be allright.(bubba stakes being pvc pipe marking the channels) and if you see a bird standing in the water it is probably shallow.
