Kcotch: The satelite is two way. If you go back I posted the up and down speeds. Both of those are through the sat no phone line required. The cost of the set up with the dish, rec. and all the network hardware you need to hook it to your computer is going to run around 799-1000 bucks depending on your dealer. The service including sat. programing is 100 a month. Not bad for all that.

You can hook up as many recievers to one dish as you want. It requires a special splitter but one dish is all you need.

You pay your service that you want for one dish

Any additional dish is 5 bucks and that includes local channels

If you use the proper multi switch you can all be watching what ever you want.

If you are not going to order pay per view you do not need a phone line hook up. If you do need phone and you do not have a phone line at the TV area you can use a special plug that will allow your phone lines to be shot over your high voltage lines in the house. This will allow you to have a phone were ever you have a plug :D:D

If you have cable were your TV is going you can piggiback the sat onto the same wire and save yourself a lot of headaches. You can even have cable and sat running on the same wire if you want to we do it all the time and there is no losses with it.

Going with the equipment rental program, 5 bucks a month. Otherwise the upfront would have been steep for 3 rooms and STB upgrades. 3 free months and a one year commitment.

we just hooked up with Comcast Digital Cable a few months ago and it's a pain in the ass!

Yes they do make cheater boxes for Sat. They run anywere from 200 on up. Make sure you do a lot of research before buying them as they can require reprogramming from time to time and that costs. THe more expensive ones do not require reprogramming.

I recommend the Sony for your main box. It is MUCH faster and has more bells and whisles than the other brands for DSS. I have had DSS for over 5/6 years and I love it. It beats cable any day of the week and the price is the same for a fully loaded subscription but you get a lot more from DSS. Also make sure that you get the remote that is radio controlled with the Sony! It's awesome!
