Ok here I go to Geekville for a minute.
N1 is the gas producer. It is a two stage gas producer turbine
that also drives a axial centrifigual compressor. It consists of
two gas producer nozzles and two turbine wheels. This gas producer directs the gas flow onto the Turbine Wheels. (N2)
N1 max rpm is approx 26,000 rpm
N2 consits of two turbine wheels this is mechanicaly independent of the N1 system which is called free power turbine. Free power Turbine allows constant turbine power speed while varying gas producer speed to maintain power.
The n2 system has a reduction system which brings the
rpm down to 6,600 rpm.
Here is why these work well in a boat.
Because the N2 is not mechanical connected to the n1
the output shaft can actualy be stopped for a short period
at idle. This enables the ability to connect a standard SCS
type crash box. to the output. Now we have shift capability
rig a caliper stop the shaft and choose your forward, reverse
or neutral.

In the GE 90 video N2 is the gas producer. I don't know why they label them differently. Your way is how it was in the helicopters I flew. These are 700 HP Turbomecca's. They are hooked together with a overrunning clutch, so if one quit the other one didn't drive it. Doug

Yup, Thats me, GE CF6 If somebody hit the starter I would have a few seconds to bolt. On average burns about 750 Gallons per hour. I'm a turbine fan,(pun intended) Nothing like hitting the starter then hearing the igniters snap and the smell of kerosene that I never get tired of. Knot you will like this pic.

That is a very loud N2 section if it's not the other engine spooling. Do you monitor for hot starts yourself or do you have an electronic engine management system? I ask because an apu is really impractical for a boat (for obvious reasons) and battery starts are too slow. I guess your setup is really no different than the ones we use in our helicopters. I have two turbines which feed into a combining transmission which feed into one driveshaft. I could see how the application really would not be too complicated other than gearing down the driveshaft and configuring your transmission.

it takes its reading based on average of all 8 thermocouplers.
I am currently adapting a auto monitoring system.
Do you have the ability to stop your output shaft?

Thank you for yor offer.
One off the top of my head.
What are you doing with the govenor?
locking it down at a given percentage?
Added another shift lever, and run on the govenor as the throttle?
Oh yeah can I borrow Haggins black American express cards so I may rig a couple more Turbine boats
up here?
