Wet sump takes 20 qts of Mercury racing oil which is a semi synthetic. Dry sump take 5 qts of Torco full synth oil that is like water it is so thin. When you change the oil you have to put the plug in real fast as it just pours back out. The wet sump takes about 80 hp more to turn.

You need a right and left drive. Spinning a left hand on a right drive will make you go in reverse. The six drive transmission controls direction of the drive. The right and left drive control the direction of the prop shaft. Before anyone asks why not just run a right hand in revese with a left prop the tranmsiion can not be run in reverse at speed as the the gear ration is 1.5 to 1 in reverse and the reverse clutches will not handle it.

Pat Weismann is the father of dry sump drives..his design is a true dry sump top and bottom..Mercury took the design and used it on the top only. the bottom runs in oil.Our drives our from the Victory team from 1980's they work absolutely great.
most people dont have the patience to do the proper maintenance to keep the running properly. THEY ARE THE BEST!!!!

That all depends on the horsepower going in, and the speed with which the drives are turning. There is no one horsepower loss.
