Question HID (Hull Identification Number).....confused!

I am going through some difficulty with the Orange County Tax Assessor regarding property tax on my project boat, a 1994 Sunseeker Apache 45. All my purchase paperwork and the engraved metal badge on the rear of the transom have the following number: SUN71445C494

Looks like it should be a Sunseeker number, but "SUN" comes up as a "smokercraft" with a value MUCH different from my boat. Any ideas? The boat is made in England.....maybe there is a different numbering system?

Coast Guard documentation number is 1075626

Nort,
that does seem odd; I too thought that Sunseekers had SUN as the first letters. Time to hit the internet on that one. BTW I just love the 45 Sunseeker.- Jeff

Strange. I just traded in a 2002 Smokercraft,it is SMK.English built should make no difference, the 12 digit hull # is a USCG #,issued for any boat sold here.SUB is Apache Seamaster, what ever that is.Nothing else close in my NADA book.

Something is wrong with where you are looking it up Nort. NADA has a listing of codes in the commercial edition. If you still have a problem I'll check it for you tommorow

So Norty... Do you own a Smokercraft or a stolen boat.

Personally, I think I'd tell the lady you were mistaken and it was a Smokercraft. Value has to be lower.

Thanks guys....not sure what to do yet. By the way, they are valuing the "Smoker-Craft" at over $485K.......so, I really need to get this resolved.

I would never have guessed that!!!

You might want to ask them if they got the decimal in the right place:

Here says QSU.

I've sold many European boats in the pass, you might want to try using US- and then the HID you have on the boat.

Most of all import boats start with US-,
