Great Lakes water levels ?
 

It seems another mild winter is about to pass. Little snow means lower water levels. I can see where some marinas may be in serious trouble. Has anyone heard any predictions of how low it will go?

I was out on the mother-in-laws dock on WhiteLake a couple weeks ago it looks to be down another 8 inches or so! This really sucks I should start a dredging company...hell my Dad is a retired crane operator......

I've heard they expect water levels to be nearly the same or slightly down from last year, which ain't great but it's not a disaster either.

Now if they would stop siphoning off all of our water through Chicago to the Mississippi we'd be all set! :mad: :mad: :mad:

Last time I went through the Chicago river locks you only moved about 6 inches up or down. What will happen if the lake gets lower than the river ? Can that happen ?

I really like how they add slips to burnham harbor and raise prices to make more money...But they don't dredge the part of the harbor that dries up in the summer and they close one of the launches because of water levels and and rigg the other one to work just in time for summer..Not to mention the wide spread corruption in all the harbors...As you can imagine , I really ripped some new *******s for some of those corrupt pricks..The Chicago harbors are a big black eye for the city.....BTW...I would put monroe harbor right behind burnham for the worst ....But I have nothing bad to say about the coast gaurd and Chicago police on the water...I have seen nothing but nice out of them..

Lake superior is done about where it was last year almost. All of the water is on land in the form of lake effect snow.

I heard a prediction from the U.S. Geological Survey through the Lexington water department ( they are currently putting a new water system in thet gets water from Lake Huron) that the water will drop 18" by end of summer.

Was looking forward to going to Lake Michigan, however with the water this low the launch ramps might not be usable. We had to launch at "Pastorics" in Gary Indiana last year due to the water level. Looks like it's the Illinois river for this year.

I have lived here (Lake Erie shoreline) since 78 and have never seen it this low. My marina (built in 89 when the water was high)has cancelled their dredging contract and I can only assume they have given up. The manager says talk to the owner and the owner says if you dont like it move to another marina. I am installing another depth finder and transducer in the front of the boat to check levels when going into marinas etc. at idle to try and save my props. I think most of Sandusky Bay will be unnavigable off plane. The only good news is that there wont be any blow boats to contend with. A lot of the places I frequent were dangerously shallow last year and will likely be unusable this year.
