Back when I was in medical school, I worked on a research project on the Black River (the next river west of there) in Lorain, Ohio. We netted bullhead catfish and sampled them for liver cancer and found more than 33% of the sampled fish had tumors in their liver.

This was caused by the spent chemicals that the steel plants used to dump into the river. Our research results were presented to both the EPA and before a senate subcommittee on water pollution.

When the boss sent me down river to get lunch for the research group, I couldn't resist the urge to get him a fish sandwich from McDonalds ...

Yeah you're right - the charter company was Million Air.

Of course, your friends were some of the lucky ones....drunk people falling into the river or trying to swim across it used to be a big concern. More than one person didn't make it.

Ahhh...the glory days of The Flats. Haven't been up there this year yet - have they started tearing down all the old crap on the East Bank yet for redevelopment? Or has the weak economy put that on hold?

I was up there last Saturday night- we had dinner in the warehouse district and I drove down just to take a look. Driving down into the Flats used to take an hour with the traffic. There were only a handful of cars out on Saturday. The East bank is absolutely dead and on the other side the Powerhouse parking lot had maybe 50-60 cars. The only thing that looked busy was the strip club.

I still remember the boat parade where the yahoo knocked Heather Locklear out with a beer bottle thrown from the bridge. Cleveland- the epitome of class.

I had a strip steak. Wasn't the best I've ever had but it was definitely a good, flavorful cut.

Next time we're up, I'll check one of your places out.
