Prayers to those involved.

The title of this thread is completely tasteless and not really appropriate.

Before the internet we never knew about this stuff unless we lived in the area....so now that we have the internet it makes it seem as if things are so much worse but it's really because we have a much broader view due to the good ole internet....

Anyone got a weekly report on all boating accidents?

Another drunken moron. Hopefully they will strap this clown down and F him in the ass as far as the legal system can go. Sounds like the two passegers are in bad shape.

According to a statement by Lt. Linc Gilbert of the La Paz County Sheriff's Office, Kirk M. Bettefas, 47, Castaic, Calif., drove the 25-foot DCB High Performance boat. The boat and occupants traveled over several docks, coming to rest on a dock and retaining wall.

Buttefas was not injured. There were three passengers, two in serious critical condition. Passenger, Mike Payton, 39, Granada Hills, Calif., sustained severe facial and spinal injuries. Kimberly Howard, 31, Whitehall, Calif., sustained severe spinal injuries. Lori Jordan, 48, Newhall, Calif., had non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital.

The injured victims were taken to La Paz Regional Hospital and later flown to regional hospitals.

Buttefas was taken into custody and booked into the La Paz County Jail on the following charges: two counts of aggravated assault; three counts of endangerment; a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear in Parker Justice Court. Buttefas also had a blood/breath alcohol concentration over the legal limit of .08 percent.

Taken care of.

Very sad story, and completely preventable.

People with performance boats that conduct themselves the way the guy that caused this accident did are completely tasteless and not really appropriate too.

I agree with that 100%

I hope the operator does a nice stretch at Gladiator School as someone's "toy".

The unfortunate part is the passengers. While part of me thinks they should have known better than to get into anything loud and fast with someone that's drinking, my overall viewpoint is that ultimately, everything that occurs on-board is the responsibility of the captain.

As far as the original title, these things do seem to happen quite frequently and from the reports you see, are for the most part VERY avoidable.
