Default Any info/opinions on a Marlin 240 Cearo

Found a boat locally that I'm pretty interested in.

It's a 1988 Marlin 240 Cearo 24 or 25 foot, 454, decent condition, and they're asking $8500 obo.

1) What is this boat worth?
2) Is it a good boat? Any history or links?
3) Anything I should look out for, in general with a boat of this vintage?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Here's some pics I took of it yesterday:

I have a 1987 Marlin Empress which is 23'4" long. I believe the Cearo is the same hull except with a little taller sides, flat deck, and built in swim platform. Mine runs barely 80 on a perfect day with a 600hp 502 and bravo. It starts to walk some at around 70 but nothing you can't steer out of. Marlins were made in Tigard, Oregon. They went out of business in about 1993? I believe. Had a good reputation. I have a test on my model from 1989 with HotBoat Mag. The test boat had a 460 King Cobra and went 60. They are a modified V, around 18 degrees I think. In lake Michigan, there are many times when it kicks up we wish we had taken one of the bigger boats, but it always gets us there, even in 6's to 8's. Just have to barely keep it off plane, nose high.

This is a 10 year old thread. Photo Bucket no longer supports past pictures.

I would be curious to see which boat it is and where it was from. Marlin only made 8 Cearo's back in the day. I owned the one that was featured in Hot Boat Magazine. I purchased it in 1989 In AZ and as sold in 1994 in WI. Mine was Reds w/Burgandy and White.

When Kal Custom bought them out, I believe Eliminator bought the molds which eventually became the Eagle.

Was a great/fun boat in the day, handled great, you could turn hard enough the side rail would almost meet the water and it would not break loose. Ran 69mph w/ 454 Mag. lots of good memories with that boat.....

what I do have is the vin number . on my title it just says marlin 1992 It is blue and white. it came from California has cf vessel number . I did not realize that this thread was 10 years old . It definitely sounds like they made a nice boat . My vin number is KKSRN175A292
i believe the Gentelmen that sold it to me called it a ski pro or something like that

Do you have a picture of your boat?

From what I remember: They made the "Cearo" only in 88 and 89? Like I stated earlier, they only made 8 of them. They made a couple other models that were close, but slightly different deck lines and interior configuration. I worked part time @ Holiday Marine in Bullhead City AZ back then and bought the boat after the spring boat show. It was used as the Demo boat for the Hot Boat Magazine article in Lake Havasu and then shipped up to Holiday. In 89/90? Land and Sea was making/testing shifting props and used the boat as a ginny pig for the testing. On that boat it worked great, but they had issues with longevity. I moved back to WI in 92 and sold the boat to a dealer who ran it through the Milwaukee Auction. That was somewhere in spring 94. And I think it went to the Chain of Lakes in IL at that time?

When Cal Custom bought the company they just broke it up and sold off the assets. Mine had a small stringer issue in 91? and when the dealer fixed it, they wanted me to pay for it because Cal Custom refused to honor the warranty's. (One of the motor mounts was stripping out of the Stringer)

They were primarily a family boat they did also get into building Ski boats and a tried their hand at the performance market, It was a great boat in the day. I was slightly wrong on who boat the molds, they were sold to Magic, but they must have then sold them to Eliminator because if you look at the Eagle lines from the mid 90's they are VERY close....
I have a picture of a picture of ours, I can email you if you like? Just pm me your email.
