The stadium was the site of the wild crash that is one of the most famous boat blowover photos on the internet. Bunch of tunnel boats in the air,Reggie was in one I believe. I was sitting in the staduim when they all went over.Someone post that photo and the driver's names. A spectaular shot, and as I recall,no serious injuries.

One of the article says the facility is obsolete for racing. Is that really true? What are they basing that statement on?

What would it take to get the stadium updated so it would be--if not "state-of-the-art" -- at least usable for modern racing?

It is NOT true! the stadium needs to have the graffitti removed. In addition there is a marina operator that has helped himself to various parts of the complex for which he is not paying rent. That situation must be corrected as well. I don't know if the rowing people think it is "theirs" but with a 52 week season, there is plenty to go around (Races, Concerts, rallies, and even Easter/Christmas religious services..by boat)

Other than that and a good cleanup it should be good to go. Maybe Brownie or others who live there can provide more info. The Champ boats are serious about this and their number one driver, Shawn Torrente, lives in the Miami area and he is volunteering to get involved in any way needed.
