Laveycraft EVO 28 - choice of lower unit, speed and fuel consumption

Hi!

i trust you are well.

I am moving towards buying a new EVO 28 with Merc 600 SCI. What kind of lower unit do you reccommend? Is an extension box any point?

If I am correct the boat runs 90 mph on the lake. How much does it run in salt water and sea level?

The gas prices in Norways is now insane. You have to pay 12 USD for a gallon. Do you know how much gallon per hour a Merc 600 Sci consumes at 3000, 3500 and 4.000 rpms?

Thanks!

Toffen you would do better to go with the 525/XR package, plenty of speed in that hull and it would be pretty bullet proof.

Hi!

Thanks for the advise! Do you know how fast it will run with the 525 EFI?

The 525 EFI has been banned in Norway / Europe until now. Only 496 HO, 600 Sci and 662 Sci have been approved by CE. However, its now likely that 525 EFi will be approved as well.

Hi!

Yesss. And one litre Valvoline full synthetic outboard oil; standard price NOK 300 / USD 60! One gallon approx USD 240.... If you buy 48 litre, you get it for NOK 165 / USD 33 per litre..... Add the fuel price, and you see how insane it is using 2 x 2.5 EFI SS engines on 3% oil.

How Much Speed Are You Looking For?

Michael1 07-05-2008 11:34 PM

Powerboat ran a test on that boat, although it was the prior hull design. It did very well for fuel economy for a boat of that size. It was over 3 mpg cruising. The new hull design should be even better. I don't remember the engine or speeds they got out of it, but I do remember it being very good. Lavey's also do not include the swim platform in the length, so they are big for their length compared to other boats.

I believe that the 600sci will give you better cruise economy than the 525, but I am still waiting for someone to do a direct comparison. The screw superchargers are very efficient at part throttle. If you do get one, please keep us posted on how the fuel usage goes...

The guys from Laveycraft check the forums at www.performanceboats.com and www.riverdavesplace.com - You could probaly get direct info from Lavey there.

Hi!

Thanks! Ideally I am looking for speed in the range of 86 mph - 94 mph. I have a Phantom 25 with twin 2.5 EFI SS now, and it is running 88 mph. So a bigger boat should be approx. the same.
