Amen again! I guess what is most surprising (after the fact that the hull and deck were repaired!) is that anyone would bother fixing damage that extensive.

Consider that beside the obvious injuries to the hull and deck, the boat was damn near submerged (see the original pic), meaning that the cabin, cockpit, and engine compartment were completely flooded. So I'm guessing that the entire interior had to be replaced, probably most if not all of the instruments/electronics/guages/bilge pumps, etc, any galley and/or stereo stuff below, and the fact that the posts say it has new 502's.

Then consider all the not-so-obvious damage - like shock damage from the, ahem, "sudden deceleration". Like maybe stringers or bulkheads that might be warped or cracked, or tabbing that is busted loose from the force of the collision.

Just seems to me that by the time you tore apart what's left of that boat to find the hidden damage, then replace all the bits and pieces that were water-logged or otherwise damaged, then put new motors and drives on her, then repair the hull and deck, you're probably out more than the boat is worth.

Did the owner finance the repairs himself? I just have a hard time thinking that any insurance company ante'd up for that bill. So much easier to total the boat and cut the guy a check (and probably cancel everyone else's high-performance policies the next day!!)

I believe it can be done, and done right. But, I also think it would be very expensive. Plus when your done is it worth the liabilty that goes with it? Remember the 43ft Black Thunder that had been rolled a few months ago, someone said that Black Thunder had seen the boat and recommended that the boat not be rebuilt. I thought it was something to do with the liabilty and the strenght of the hull in the future. And it didn't look all that bad!! Heck, I thought I could fix it and I'm a Undertaker!!
