Anyone know this boat - 32 tempest - SF Bay
I'm thinking about picking up a 32 Tempest for sale in SF BAy area. The boat is orignially from somewhere in New York.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/boa/808879470.html
Owner states the engines are new crate 502's and the Trans and drives are rebuilt. The engines do look like new enigines, though they are not Merc's, but they need to be wired and there is no exhaust so I can't test the boat. He also says it has been repainted becaue he simply wanted it perfect for himself and in person the exterior looks new and structure looks solid.
I can deal with a little project but definately don't want to get in over my budget. Any help is appreciated.

You're taking a big risk buying anything that doesn't run, and can't be sea trialed. Who knows what the condition of any of it is in? This guy is a BSer. A discontinued 18 year old 32' boat that books for over $50K? Please! What book is this? I would pass.

The seller is basing the value on NADA which is 50.5K with 500hp but as everyone knows it's not a valid referrence these days. So far he is at $19k right now and it seems like a lot of boat for the money assuming the drives aren't junk and all I need is exhaust and a little elbow grease to finish the engine install.
Is there any way to inspect the trannies or drives without the engines running? They do have a nice clean coat of paint of course that doesn't mean much
I have the itch to buy and like the simple lines of the boat but of course I do tend to be a little too impulsive lately. I'm looking to get in the 30-33ft range. Has anyone run one of these 32 Tempests? How is the hull design and strength?

He should have documentation on all this stuff, considering he just bought it. The engines, the drive service, etc. That should tell you plenty.
If the receipt for the "brand new Gen V 502's" is from GM Performance, they're not marine engines and will need disassembly and some work to make them suitable. If they are Gen V, they're at least a decade and a half old.
