You guys that are on DSL and are always on. Do you have a firewall setup? When we went mirowave and were always on, I was told I should get Norton Internet Security. I get an average of 4 times per day someone without permission trys to get into my computer.

The down side is I have issues with some chat and bulletin boards, like OSO. It does goffy things when it comes to cookies.

any of you have to deal with this?

Cable RULES!!!!!
I dabble with a little online gaming, and I'm quite deadly with a sniper rifle(team fortress classic/counterstrike) and the cable modem.
BTW another way to check connection speed is like this.
Click "start"- "programs" - "ms-dos prompt" then type in;
ping www.yourfavoritesite.com -t , after the page fills up hit ctrl-c
This will check for packet loss, and it will tell you if your connection is stable. I usually ping yahoo at about 34-38 milliseconds

Cable here, clocked in at 990.3 kbps and I love it. We've got a T3 line at work, but they installed new blocking software and OSO is a no no. It gets flagged for being a "shopping" site, for crying out loud. The flip side is I'm getting a lot more work done now.

First I ran ISDN now cable modem, but I’m thinking about switching to DSL. With DSL you don’t share a pool of resources with everyone on your hub plus with DSL there are no latency issues.

If you don’t experience any of these problems with cable modem now, just wait until your hub fills up as more and more people in your neighborhood sign up.

Remember the commercial? "Internet Hog!…Get off the Internet!…"
