There has never been a successful contract effort put forth. Unlike other major motorsports who can guarantee to a series sponsor that all racers are fully supportive of the series, offshore racers have been uncommitted to anything since the OPT/APBA breakup in 1989.......
This "flexibility"....is the sports biggest weakness IMHO.
Bad luck on Destin, but maybe this will put a larger fleet into Key West........ fueling the annual delusions of "togetherness" once again.

How will Performance Boat Racing Survive!
Not being a big time-long time boat racer or sponsor I can only speak to the last few years, 1998 thru 2008, 10 years.
I am a pretty good marketing student and I will start this reply with a statement. some may listen and understand, some won't see the forest thru the trees!
If the sport of Offshore/Inshore performance racing is going to survive as a real long term sport with a country wide fan base, a good large volume of participating teams and the backing of a good mix and quantity of well financed sponsors and the Media coverage that will bring the sponsors, the various offshore/inshore boat racing organizations are going to have to CONSOLIDATE into one solid organization, United We Stand, Divided We Fall!
There will have to be that will be a level playing field for the teams and participants and represent the sport across the entire North American continent with a wide variety of venues, dates and purses and prizes that will develop a large following from those inside and outside the performance boating community.
Its just to expensive today to operate teams and sponsor racing if the fan base, media coverage and cost return comittment for teams and racers is not there along with the advertising return the sponsors need for their expenses.
The fractured state of the sport with its somewhat regional basis and the lack of quality sponsors, sometimes on again off again venues and *****ing and bickering among the organizations will KILL THIS SPORT!
You will either Race together big as a consolidated happy sophisticated group or your racing will wither and die!
More of an epitath than a prediction right now!
As Larry the Cable Guy would say, GET'R Done!
Hope it continues.
Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar
