Powerboat P1 World Championship Endurance Race Cancelled
The Powerboat P1 World Championship Update – Day 2
Endurance Race – Sunday, September 28, 2008
Endurance Race – Sunday, September 28, 2008
The coast of southern Portugal is in a deluge. Storm delays ensued all day and though it was initially determined that the Evolution class race would run at 16:15 (4:15 PM) with a shortened storm course, it was decided at 15:30 (3:30 PM) that worsening conditions and rough seas made it unsafe for either class to race.
Though Fountain Worldwide, 1st4boats.com had already won the World Championship based on the points standings, the remaining podium positions were up for grabs, by the diesel-powered Metamarine, GFN Gibellato, the Mercury-powered Kiton Outerlimits and the Ilmor-powered Pignolo 53 Skater. The Fantastic 1 Mercury-powered Cigarette was just behind and had been gaining momentum, as had the German-built Cranefields Wine. The Lucas Oil Mercury-powered Skater had hoped to fight for redemption, after breaking in the early laps in the Sprint race.
Final standings, to include bonus P1 points awards, will be announced later today. Stay tuned!
