water temp variation?

What does it mean when your temp that used to always stay steady at about 175 start a new thing of fluxuation? goes to about 180 then down to 155 then works back up to about 180 then drops again when under way, at idle it stays steady at about 175.

I am guessing that you do not have a closed cooling system and the current water temp is pretty chilly. As long as it stays around there, I wouldnt worry, its just the thermostat opening and closing. I notice it in my skiboat, especially when the waters like 50 degrees. The boat heats up and when the thermostat opens, the water is so cold that it cools the motor down quite a bit and then has to heat up again. I am also NOT a mechanic if I am wrong.

Your thermostats are probably going bad change them they are cheap.

lack of water flow creates air pockets where steam forms and it creates your condition. check your raw water pump/impeller

Thank you, it seemed to get better as the day went on, but something is wrong.
