It Depends On Whether It Is 2wd Or 4wd, What Gear & Or Whether It's A 2500 Model. I Want To Believe They Were Around 7200lbs Towuing Capacity. My '08 Has An 8000lb Capacity W/ A 4.11 Gear.

I had an '03 1500 4WD Z71 Avalanche with the 5.3L and 3.73 gears. Towing capacity was right around 7K if memory serves. It was no towing beast...

i didnt know you could get an 08 with 8000lb and the 4.11's. I tried to buy an 08 avalanche 2500 and they said the no longer make them, the best they could come up with for an avalanche was 7200lbs. I ended up buying a tahoe which can also tow 7200lbs, figured either way i was screwed for towing my clam

You are correct, 2500 3/4 ton option no longer available. Only options are 5.3L vs. 6.0L, 2wd vs. 4wd & 3.73 vs. 4.10 (not 4.11).

I've been towing my 30 Skater locally to the ramp (approx) 6 miles figuring if the boat weighed 6700lbs dry the boat & trailer might weigh 8500lbs. I was way off. I towed to a truck stop & dropped the boat & trailer on the scales, much to my surprise she weighed out @ 10,950 1/2 full of fuel. The auto leveling suspension is deceiving as I'm way over. Ordered a 6.0 gas 2500HD Crew Cab w/ 6spd auto w/ 3.73's.

I believe wheelbase & LT tires make the biggest towing difference from a weight handling standpoint. Tahoe has a pretty short WB, an Avalanche is equal to a Suburban (which is still available in a 3/4 ton).

Z71 is a 4x4
Z66 is 2WD

3.73 or 4.10 rear end is most important factor

2500 Avalanche was discontinued in 2004 I believe.
There is no such thing as a Z71 2500 Avalanche.

Sydwayz has got all the facts. I said Z77 when I meant Z66, I just couldn't picture it in my head. Those are pretty rare in the southeast!
