Lucas Oil Racing at Lucas Oil Stadium
NIGEL HOOK BRINGS POWERBOAT P1 RACING TO THE NFL AND LUCAS OIL STADIUM IN INDIANPOLIS
Indianapolis, Indiana December 2008 - Indianapolis may be known to race fans for the Brickyard 500, but it is also home to the Colts National Football League (NFL) team, which boasts a newly built and named Lucas Oil Stadium. Forrest Lucas, President and CEO of Lucas Oil is an Indianapolis native and started his company there; so regardless that the company moved to California, Lucas still considers himself “from” Indiana.
Lucas Oil recently inked a $122 million naming rights, 20-year deal for the 63,000 seat, retractable roof stadium—a stellar piece of architecture which houses Hook’s Scarab race boat, suspended from the ceiling—a part of the Lucas Oil North Gate--a racing “theme park” of Lucas Oil paraphernalia.
Hook was the celebrity of the day, signing autographs and being interviewed on radio as the Detroit Lions recently battled the Indianapolis Colts. The back cover of the game program featured Hook and the 2009 P1 Outerlimits Powerboat, in which Hook, Joe Sgro and Mike Fiore won the SBI/ABPA/UIM 2008 Super Vee Unlimited World Championship title in Key West in November. “Having an offshore boat hanging in the stadium of one of the most high-profile NFL teams is huge for our sport,” said Hook, “I raced this Scarab for 10 years and it was one of the most successful offshore boats of its day—I couldn’t be more proud to have it in the Lucas Oil Stadium, nor be more proud of the sponsor that has helped support my race team for the past 8 years!” he added.
Hook has won numerous National and World offshore racing titles and earned the Lord Beaverbrook Trophy, in historic Cowes, England, with the Outerlimits team in 2007, his first year with the Powerboat P1 circuit. Hook will return with the Lucas Oil Outerlimits team to Powerboat P1 in March, 2009 in Bahrain for his third P1 season with high hopes of winning the World Championship. “We have fought hard and came close—maybe the third time IS a charm!” he laughs!
For a Facebook video and pictorial tour with Hook at the Lucas Oil Stadium, visit: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/v...=1068126097465. She also posted numerous photographs to Hook’s Facebook page to commemorate the event.
