it's reggies way or the highway, i'm taking the highway!!

I'll add one more thing, any Reggie/Beak race boat I've ever seen has had right handed throttles??? Not to bash here because I gotten beaten by a few Fountains in my time, but the dash on his boats is still the same dash shape from when the bolsters were joined together. I think it has just carried forward as part of his mark or look and for no other reason.

Have to agree here. The one Fountain we had had left throttles/shifters. Couldn't stand them. Bought the Sonic and guess what LEFT handed throttles but right handed shifters. When I redid the dash we switched the throttles to the right and shifters to the left. What a big difference.

Told Fountain I'd buy a 42 if they could put the throttles on the right. Can be done with some modifications.

I forgot that the early Fountains did have side-by-side bolsters, but there was one way you could get right-hand throttles from the factory for a short while. Ralph Martin's Everglades package had Latham throttles on the starboard side. We tested this version when I was at Powerboat and if I recall correctly—it was more than 10 years ago—our testers preferred this setup.

Been awhile since I was in a Fountain, but can you comfortably reach the throttles from the port bolster? If not, you would have to stand between the seats and I would think that is not the safest way to run in rough water.

I prefer throttles on the right, shifters on the left like the 30 and 35 Outlaw. That was a great setup, and comfortable in any condition.

I understand that, but with today's boats all having split bolsters, can you comfortably reach over and work the throttles from the passenger bolster? If not, then why continue the throttle/shifter placement to the left?

That's what I thought. I would think you'd be leaned way over and your elbow would be at a bad angle. It does make them unique. I've never driven a Fountain, but have rode in a 38 and the owner said you get used to it soon enough.
