Default Boat lift - with or against the wind/current?

I'm building a pier with lift. Sometimes there is a moderate cross wind. Would you build a boat lift so that you enter with or against the wind?

IOW, like this ...

I would go with the second illustration. For me, it is generally (1) a lot easier to have the wind push me in and (2) dock closest to the side I drive. That's all personal preference, but just my opinion.

In general, I find it easier to dock when going into the wind and waves -- you have more control. If the wind is behind you, you can be pushed into the dock especially when it is rough.

Another thing to consider is that if the area is rough at times, the dock will last longer if the structure is oriented such that it has the least amount of surface area pointing towards the rough water.
